What is #OperationReportHate? #OperationReportHate is a wayfarers aimed at raising sensation within the Gypsy, Traveller and Roma communities well-nigh hate crimes and the need to report them. We have partnered up with a number of leading stakeholders and charities to unzip this aim. The wayfarers will moreover be highlighting the fantastic work of organisations working with the communities to modernize reporting rates and share good practice and resources. The end goal is for hate crimes versus the Gypsy, Traveller & Roma communities to be given the same public profile and recognition as other hate crimes. 2. How can I support the campaign? This wayfarers can only be a success if we get the support from as many people as possible. There are a number of easy ways for you to lend your support for the wayfarers and help us unzip our goal!   Write to your MP asking them to support the wayfarers An constructive way to raise the profile of the campaign, and highlight the issue of hate crimes versus GTR communities is to write to your local MP. To make things a little easier, we have drafted an email which you can reprinting and paste in an email to your MP (you are of undertow self-ruling to transpiration as much as you like). To find your MP and get their email address, visit the Parliament UK website. It would be helpful if you could let us know who you’ve contacted, so we can follow up and make sure they support the campaign! Email policymanager@travellermovement.org.uk to let us know. Subject: Support #OperationReportHate Dear MP, I am writing to you to ask you to support #OperationReportHate, which is a wayfarers for hate crimes versus the Gypsy, Traveller and Roma (GTR) communities to be given the same public profile and recognition as other hate crimes. As you will be aware, since the EU referendum result there has been an viperous increase in the number of hate crimes and the GTR communities have been victims of such offences. Hate crimes versus Gypsies and Travellers are moreover underreported, which ways these crimes remain the lowest of priorities. To show your support, please share a photo of yourself holding an #OperationReportHate poster (which can be downloaded here) on social media using the hashtag: #OperationReportHate. This simple act will help bring greater public sustentation to hate crimes and the need to report them. I hope you can support the #OperationReportHate wayfarers in highlighting the need to report and record hate crimes versus GTR communities. I squint forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, [INSERT NAME] Support the wayfarers on social media Social media is a powerful way to spread the message of the wayfarers and to help get wider public support. Posts with photos on Twitter and Facebook get shared the most, so to help get the wayfarers as much sustentation as possible we have produced a poster for you to download and have your photo taken with. Please encourage as many of your friends, family and colleagues as possible to have their photo taken with the poster and share on Facebook and Twitter! Another good way to get a message out there on social media is to send tweets to people with large followings, such as celebrities and politicians (Councillors and MPs) and asking them to have their photo taken with the #OperationReportHate poster. We will moreover be posting here regularly updating people on upcoming events, so do trammels back. 3. What is a ‘hate crime’? We use the term ‘hate crime’ to describe anything that happens to you considering someone dislikes your: Ethnicity (Gypsy, Traveller and Roma are ethnicities) Religion or weighing Sexual orientation Gender identityPowerlessness(including learning powerlessness and mental health) A hate treason could be: Bullying Being shouted at in the street Being turned yonder from a pub Graffiti Damage to your property (including vans and cars) Hitting or punching To help explain what sort of thing can be considered as a hate crime, we have given a couple of examples below. Examples of when you should report a hate crime: If you go to a pub to have a drink with your friends and the landlord says you cannot drink here considering you are a Gypsy or Traveller then you can report this through the True Vision website below. Another example is if you see graffiti with offensive language, such as ‘Travellers not welcome’, you can report this to the police & True Vision too.   Remember – anyone can report hate crime, not just the victim. So if you see anything like this happen to someone else, you can report it too. 4. Why should I report hate crime? Hate crimes hurt the victim and the rest of the polity too. By reporting a hate treason you may stop it from happening to someone else. Hate crimes versus Gypsies, Travellers and Roma happen a lot, but we do not report them as often as other people.  If we want increasingly to be washed-up to protect us and our families, we need to prove how big the problem is. The increasingly hate crimes that we report, the increasingly seriously they will be taken. 5. How can I report hate crime? If it is an emergency you can undeniability the Police on 999. If it is not an emergency and you want to tell the police directly, you can undeniability 101. You can fill in a form on the True Vision or the Report Racism Gypsy, Roma, Traveller websites.  The report will be sent to your local police station.   Do I have to requite my name? If you want the hate treason to be investigated then you will need to requite your name and contact details. But you do not have to requite your name if you do not want to.  Your report will still help to build up a picture of the hate crimes that Gypsies, Travellers and Roma experience.   What will happen next? The police are required to investigate every hate treason reported to them. Even if the police cannot prosecute, by reporting the treason it will be easier to get them to put things in place to help stop it happening then in the future. 6. I don't want to go directly to the police: third party reporting centres If you finger increasingly comfortable, you can moreover go through a Gypsy, Traveller and Roma ‘third-party reporting centre’ who can take your story and pass it on to the authorities (if you want them to). You can report hate crimes through the pursuit places. Report Racism GRT is a website and reporting site set-up by Herts GATE.
